About Rajarhat-New Town Assembly Constituency
Rajarhat New Town is constituency No. 115 of West Bengal legislative assembly. It is situated in North 24 Parganas. It is part of Lok Sabha constituency No. 17 which is Barasat. It is an unreserved constituency. This constituency emerged in 2011 following the bifurcation of the erstwhile Rajarhat constituency.
According to the Election Commission of India, the constituency of Rajarhat New Town has 1,84,101 registered voters. It has 96,782 male and 87,319 female voters.
In the 2011 assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress managed to capture this seat and secure an important win from here. Rajarhat had been a CPI(M) domain for a few decades. Sabyasachi Dutta, the TMC candidate, won by a margin of 7,747 votes. While Dutta bagged 80,738 votes, CPI(M)'s Tapash Chatterjee, the nearest contender, got 72,991. The voter turnout was 89.11%.
