Falakata is a legislative assembly constituency in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal and belongs to the Alipurduars (ST) Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of the state. There are a total of 2,16,015 people in the Falakata legislative assembly constituency who hold the right to vote as per the universal adult franchise. Amongst all the voters in the constituency, there are 1,12,186 males and 1,03,828 females. The Falakata constituency covers Purba Kanthalbari gram panchayats of Alipurduar-I community development block and Falakata community development block as recommended by the Delimitation Commission of India in 2008. Anil Adhikari of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is the sitting MLA of Falakata, who bagged home 77,821 votes. He defeated CPM's Rabindra Nath Barman, who won 69,775 votes in the 2011 assembly elections. Only candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) can contest the Falakata seat of the legislative assembly of West Bengal.
