About Chanchal Legislative Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency
Chanchal is a legislative assembly constituency located in the Maldaha district of West Bengal and is a part of the Uttar Maldaha Lok Sabha (parliamentary) constituency of the state. A total of 2,07,534 people of the Chanchal assembly segment have the right to vote under the universal adult franchise. Amongst all the voters of the constituency, there are 1,08,925 men and 98,607 women. Asif Mehbub of the INC was elected as the very first MLA from Chanchal as it was created in 2008 following the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission of India. Mehbub got 68,586 votes and defeated CPM's Anjuman Ara Begam by a margin of 14,187 votes. As per the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission, the Chanchal assembly segment comprises Tulsihatta, Barui, Rashidabad and Kusidha gram panchayats of Harischandrapur-I community development block; and Chanchal-I community development block.
