Ballygunge is constituency No. 161 of West Bengal legislative assembly. Situated in Kolkata, this constituency is part of Lok Sabha constituency No. 23 which is Kolkata Dakshin. It is an open constituency.
According to data with the Election Commission of India, Ballygunge constituency has 2,19,835 registered voters out of which 96,765 are female and 1,23,070 are male voters.
In the 2011 assembly elections, eight candidates contested from this seat. Subrata Mukherjee of Trinamool Congress(TMC) won this seat by routing his closest rival Fuad Halim of CPI(M) by an impressive margin of 41,185 votes. The voter turnout was 66.16%. This seat had been a CPI(M) stronghold till 2006 before Javed Ahmed Khan of TMC secured it from CPI(M) mascot Rabin Deb.
