After AIADMAK, it was the DMK that brought out the list of party candidates on 28 October for Municipal Corporations, Tiruchi, Salem and Thoothukudi. According to the party organisational structure, Tiruchi is handled by Tiruchi (South) district party unit, Salem by Central district unit and Thoothukudi by the South district unit.
A few seats were allotted by the party to the alliance partners - the Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). As per reports, the Congress will be contesting in wards 14, 37 and 44 of Tiruchi, wards 8, 9, 16 , 17 and 36 of Salem and wards 6, 25, 35, 39, 50, 58, 59 of Thoothukudi; whereas, the IUML will be contesting in ward 19 of Salem and wards 20 and 53 of Thoothukudi.
As per reports from the party sources, the Congress is interested in getting the Mayor seat in Chennai, thus the list for Chennai Municipal Corporation has not yet been finalised. The prospect of Ma. Subramaniam has been removed as he already took over as MLA.

DMK Manifesto 2016
DMK president M. Karunanidhi has released his party's manifesto. The manifesto promises waiver of education loans besides tablets or laptops with 3G/4G internet connection and 10GB per month download option for 16 lakh students. It also promises to provide smart phones to poor families. The party has also promised to establish the Lokayukta, enact the Right to Service Act. It plans to prepare a separate budget for agriculture, set up a ministry for irrigation, waive crop loans for small and micro farmers. The manifesto says that steps will be taken to include fishermen in the scheduled tribes list as ‘marine tribes’ and include milk in the Nutritious Meal Scheme.Arguing that the construction industry had suffered to a great extent during the AIADMK regime, the manifesto said that the DMK will put in place a single window system to grant permission for construction of houses, factories, offices, multi-storied residential buildings and commercial buildings within 60 days and rationalise the fee for approval.
Some other key announcement made in the DMK manifesto are:

- Minimum support price for paddy to be increased

- Tamil will be introduced as official language in Central Government offices too.
- Maternity leave to be increased to nine months.

- All Defamation cases and cases against Kudankulam protesters to be withdrawn
- Uninterrupted electricity
- Efforts to revive Jallikattu
- Rs 3 lakh subsidy for low income groups for construction of concrete houses
- Cell phones at subsidised price
