The state of Punjab where BJP and Akali Dal has an alliance is facing tough competition from arch rival Congress and a new entrant Aam Aadmi Party. In the 117-member house, the BJP-SAD is fighting on all 117 seats. Shiromani Akali dal is fighting on 94 of the 117 seats while 23 seats have been given to the alliance partner, the BJP. Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal is fighting from Jalalabad while Parkash Singh Bhatti is fighting from Balluna. The Lambi would seat would see the contest between the two giants as chief minister Praksh Singh Badal is fighting against the congress Punjab chief Captain Amarinder Singh. Hardeep Singh 'Dimpy' Dhillon is fighting from Giddarbaha
In the previous elections held in 2012 the SAD- BJP combine won the election by getting 68 of the 117 seats. Akali dal won 56 of the 94 seats it won and the BJP won 12 of the 23 seats it contested in alliance. Parkash Singh Badal became the chief minister of the state and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal the Deputy Chief Minister. The vote share of Akali Dal and the BJP in 2012 was 34.59 and 7.15 respectively.
