J K Krishna Reddy is the current MLA from Chintamani assembly constituency. He is a member of the 13th Legislative Assembly, which was elected in 2008. In 2018, under the Congress government, Krishna Reddy became the Deputy speaker of the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha. In the 2018 Vidhan Sabha elections he won the seat by defeating Dr. M.C. Sudhakar of BPJP party by 5 thousand votes.
