Karnataka Elections 2023 Election Assembly Consituncies and Results

Karnataka elections are due in the year 2023. Karnataka's assembly results 2023 shall be shortly declared after the election process is over on the designated dates decided by the election commission. Karnataka is a south Indian state, where elections are due before May 2023 for the 224 Vidhan Sabha constituencies. The other one constituency is a reserved one where the Governor nominates one member of the Anglo-Indian community. The current Karnataka Legislative assembly's tenure is supposed to end before 24th May 2023. The major parties contesting the elections are the BJP, INC, and JD(S). The current Chief Minister of the state is Basavraj Bommai.

Assembly Constituencies of Karnataka

Karnataka has 225 state assembly constituencies, out of which members of 224 seats are elected through Assembly polls and the remaining one is nominated by the Karnataka Governor from the Anglo-Indian community. The Assembly lasts for five years, except if dissolved earlier. The last assembly was the fourteenth assembly elected with K. B. Koliwad as the speaker of the house. Elections in Karnataka for a new assembly were held on May 12 and the results were declared on May 15, 2018. B S Yeddyurappa of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been sworn in as the state's 23rd Chief Minister.

The EC has announced that the Karnataka by-poll results will be announced on December 9th. While we wait for the actual results, prominent exit polls of Karnataka by-election 2019 have predicted a win for BJP. The constituencies that underwent the elections are Athani, Kagwad, Gokak, Yellapur, Hirekerur, Ranibennur, Vijayanagar, Chikballapur, KR Puram, Yeshwanthpur, Mahalakshmi Layout, Shivajinagar, Hoskote, KR Pet and Hunsur. The voting began at 7 AM and wrapped up by 6 PM. As per the information from the Election Commission, the average voter turnout of 15 constituencies for Karnataka by-election was approximately 66 percent. Round 37 lakh voters were eligible to vote for the by-polls.

Karnataka By-Poll Election Summary

Assembly elections for Karnataka were held on May 12th, 2018. The results were declared on May 15th, 2018 in which, BJP emerged as the largest party in the election, winning 104 seats. While the INC and JDS won 80 and 37 seats respectively. Also, Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) and Karnataka Pragnyavantha Janatha Party (KPJP) winning one seat each, and one winner in the independent category.

This resulted in a hung assembly, which requires 113 seats for the majority out of 224 seats. Eventually, BJP formed the government citing the reason being the largest winning party. However, after the supreme court ruled to prove the majority within 3 days, the then chief minister Yeddyurappa resigned before the trust vote. After this, INC and JDS formed a coalition government with H.D. Kumaraswamy as the chief minister. However, events took a dramatic turn after the BJP led central government came to power in May 2019.

In the month of July, about 17 MLAs resigned from the karnataka assembly leaving the coalition government in a minority. CM H.D. Kumaraswamy resigned when he lost the trust vote in the assembly. The resignations were thought to be provoked by BJP, and over the course of time, these MLAs were disqualified by Karnataka speaker. Their disqualification was upheld by the Supreme Court while they were allowed to contest the by-polls.

ByPoll will be held for the 15 vacant constituencies on 5th December 2019. The dates for two remaining seats are to be announced yet. 13 out of 15 rebel MLAs will be contesting the by-polls on BJP ticket while the results will be announced on 9th December. The BJP and INC-JDS coalition both are putting concerted efforts on the battleground in order to regain power in Karnataka.

Karnataka Lok Sabha Elections Summary 2019

Dates of voting for Karnataka Lok Sabha Elections were April 18 and April 23. There are 28 Lok Sabha Constituencies in Karnataka. As per the data from the Election Commission of India, Karnataka has 5,03,46,721 eligible voters, of which 2,54,94,711 are male, 2,48,47,292 female and 4,718 voters of the Third Gender. The two central alliances were on the battleground in Karnataka, the NDA, and UPA. For Karnataka Lok Sabha elections, BJP from NDA contested on 27 seats and one independent candidate Sumalatha Ambarish. From the UPA alliance, INC contested 21 seats and JD(S) contested 7 seats.

Results for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were declared collectively for the nation on 23 May 2019. BJP gained a landslide victory by winning 25 seats from Karnataka. The Indian National Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) won one seat each, while one independent winner from NDA coalition. Some of the key candidates for the elections were Mallikarjun Kharge- who was contesting for the 12th lime, lost to Dr. Umesh Jadhav who was a former Congress party member now in BJP; HD Devegowda- The former prime minister lost to BJP candidate G.S. Basavaraj; Tejasvi Surya- who was the youngest Lok Sabha contestant won over BK Hariprasad from congress.
