About Uri Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Uri is a small town on river Jhelum in the Baramulla district of the state. Uri is considered to be the gateway to Kashmir Valley. It is a frontier town and it is surrounded on three sides by the part of Kashmir which is administered by Pakistan. At the 2001 census, Uri had a population of 400,900. The assembly constituency of Uri is a part of Baramulla parliamentary constituency. Taj Mohi-Ud-Din of INC won the 2008 assembly elections and is the present MLA. He defeated Mohammad Shafi. Taj Mohi-Ud-Din bagged 24036 votes as against Shafi's 22157 votes.
