About Sonawar Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency
Sonawar, one of the 87 assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir is a part of Srinagar parliamentary constituency. The seat is a JKNC bastion. Farooq Abdullah won the 2008 assembly elections. He defetaed Ghulam Qadir Pardesi of PDP with just a margin of 94 votes. But when Abdullah was elected as the member of Rajya Sabha, he resigned from the constituency. As a result bypolls were held in the year 2009. Md.Yasin Shah of JKNC won the bypolls by defeating Md. Ashraf Mir of PDP. Shah received 9306 votes as against Mir's 9256 votes.
