About Pampore Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency
Pampore is a town in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is also referred to as saffron town as it is famous for the cultivation of saffron. According to the 2001 India census, the town had a population of 46,595. The assembly constituency of Pampore is a part of Anantnag parliamentary constituency. The constituency witnessed three assembly elections in the span of six years. Abdul Aziz of PDP won the 2002 assembly elections but was assassinated after two months. The bypolls were held in 2003 in which Zahoor Ahmad Mir of PDP came out victorious. He won the 2008 assembly elections for the second consecutive time and is the present MLA. He defeated Mohd Anwar Bhat of INC. Mir bagged 11117 votes as against Bhat's 5969 votes.
