About Kangan Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Kangan is a town in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. As of 2001 India census, it had a population of 94874. The assembly constituency of Kangan is a part of Srinagar parliamentary constituency. The constituency has been the stronghold of National Conference. The party has occupied the seat since 1996. Mian Altaf Ahmed has been the MLA since 1987. He won the 2008 assembly elections by defeating Bashir Ahmad Mir of PDP. Ahmed secured 19210 votes as against Mir's 11495 votes.
