About Ganderbal Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency
Ganderbal city, one of the 87 constituencies, was carved out of Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly constituency of Ganderbal is a part of Srinagar parliamentary constituency. The 2008 assembly elections witnessed the royal battle between NC president Omar Abdullah and Qazi Mohammed Afzal of PDP. Afzal who defeated Abdullah in 2002 assembly elections could not retain the seat in 2008. Abdullah defeated Afzal with a huge margin. He secured 16519 as against Afzal's 8304 votes.
