On September 13, 2014 by-election will take place in Khambhalia assembly constituency and the votes will be counted on September 16. Bypoll got necessitated in this assembly because BJP’s sitting MLA, Poonamben Hematbhai Maadam, got elected to the parliament during 2014 Lok Sabha election. Mulubhai Bera is the BJP candidate and Goriya Meramanbhai M is the Congress candidate from Khambhalia. BJP has been winning Khambhalia assembly constituency since 1995. During 2012 Vidhan Sabha election, BJP’s Poonamben Hematbhai Maadam defeated Ahir Ebha Karsan Karmur of INC by over 38,382 votes. The main poll planks for BJP are Narendra Modi factor, woman empowerment, and stress on sanitation. Congress is banking upon corruption, inflation, and other local issues.

There are 2,42,484 eligible voters in Khambhalia, among which 1,15,733 are female and 1,26,743 are male. Khambhalia is located in Devbhoomi Dwarka district of Gujarat. Around 7 per cent of the population here belong to SC and ST community. Major communities, on the basis of caste and religion, found in Khambhalia are Ahir, Jadeja, Muslim, Charan, Rabari, Bharwad, and Mehr. Average literacy rate of this place is 69 per cent, higher than that of national average.
