Bhudni constituency which comes under Sehore district is said to have BJP’s Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s stronghold. He became MLA from Budhni in 1990 for the first time.
So far, 15 assembly elections conducted in Budhni constituency, in which BJP won 6 times and Congress, five times. In 2013, Shivraj Singh Chouhan defeated Congress candidate Dr. Mahinder Singh Chauhan with a difference of 84805 votes. Shivraj won the elections with 128730 votes while Mahendra had to settle for 128730 votes. In 2008, Shivraj won the seat with 128730 votes defeating Mahesh Singh Rajput of Congress with a margin of 4152 votes. Mahesh got 34303 votes.
The conditions that favour Shivraj Singh to won the seat over and over again is his brilliant ability to public connect and strong leadership. Since he is a self made man, he has in dept understanding of public grievances and its resolution. His humbleness, simplicity and down-to-earth approach are what make him stronger in community attachment. Also he started several schemes for farmers and underprivileged which is continuously gaining popularity and so he is. So far no other candidate is in stature of Shivraj to uproot him from the constituency.

In 1998, Dev Kumar Patel of Congress won the seat against BJP’s Guru Prasad Sharma with a margin of 1774 votes.
