Madhya Pradesh Elections Results 2013

The ruling BJP government will continue its rule in Madhya Pradesh for the third term in a row, with the results of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections being announced. The Congress was washed away in the state, with the people reposing faith in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government. Chouhan registered a hat-trick in the post of Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. The results have upset Congress leaders of MP like Jyotiraditya Scindia and Digvijay Singh. Scindia expressed disappointment at the MP results saying it was time for serious introspection of the Congress. He said this was the victory of Shivraj Chouhan, and not Narendra Modi’s. On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh CM Chouhan thanked Modi for his immense role in the BJP’s victory in MP, saying it was time to conquer the Lok Sabha polls to be held next year.

The 2013 MP Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh were held on November 25. The results will be out on December 8.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been ruling the roost for the past two elections, with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan having a good report card to show. The party will naturally look to score a hat-trick this time. The Muslim vote has always been a problem for the BJP in the state, and it remains to be seen how effective the CM's attempts to appease the community will be. For the Congress party, chances are not so bright as it happens to have several factions within the state. A budget of Rs. 16 lakh has been prescribed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) towards campaigning for these elections. ECI will monitor the election to ensure that the parties follow the Model Code of Conduct during the electoral process.
