About Billawar Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) Constituency

Billawar is a town in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. The town is also referred to as Balaur and is famous for its ancient monuments. As of 2011 India census, it had a population of 11,916. The assembly constituency of Billawar is a part of Udhampur parliamentary constituency. The seat is the stronghold of INC. Except for 2002 assembly elections, INC has won all the assembly elections. Manohar Lal Sharma won the 2008 assembly elections for the second consecutive time and is the present MLA. He defeated Satish Sharma of BJP. Manohar Lal Sharma bagged 22262 votes as against Satish Sharma's 13879 votes.
